The Friends recently received a grant towards the upgrade of the Limes Avenue wildlife pond. Remedial work started earlier this year with the thinning of the trees surrounding the pond to allow in more light. Restoration of the pond will begin soon. This will include de-silting, re-building and stabilising the banks, creating a reed bed and laying some pipes to direct rainwater from Limes Avenue into the pond. The Greggs grant will cover landscaping the restored pond to create a first-class habitat for the ducks and other pond-life. We also hope to secure a grant for an interpretation board about pond-life. The landscaping will take place during a volunteer day in April 2019, when we hope to plant some 500 water plants and install protective netting. Please let us know if you would like to help! Thank you, Greggs!
